The West Penn PGY-1 residency program conducted in an ambulatory environment develops clinical skills in a variety of direct patient care settings to help prepare a resident for clinical practice of a PGY-2 residency. The resident will have the opportunity for exposure in multiple ambulatory services and internal medicine services that will foster development of clinical skills, teaching skills, and leadership. Residents will work in a collaborative academic environment.
PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
The one year residency program will enhance the knowledge and skills developed from the residents’ respective Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program and help contribute to the development of a clinical pharmacist focused on managing ambulatory care patients. Pharmacists who have successfully completed the program will be eligible for board certification and postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
