Application frequently asked questions (FAQs)

  1. Do you offer pre-match positions? No.
  2. Do you have minimum USMLE score requirements? No.  We perform holistic review of applications.
  3. Do I have to take Step 2 before my interview?  Step 1 scores are required prior to invitation for an interview. Although we do not require a Step 2 score for an interview, we strongly recommend that you provide a Step 2 score prior to the rank list deadline.
  4. What is your application deadline? We follow the Recommended Standards for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Application and Interview Processes set by APGO and CREOG.
  5. Is your program “DO friendly”? We encourage DO students to apply to our program. Several of our residents and faculty have completed their medical school training at an osteopathic medical school.
  6. If I have taken COMLEX Level 1, do I also need to take USMLE Step 1? A USMLE exam score is required.
  7. What type of visas do you sponsor? Our institution sponsors J-1 Visas only.

Visiting students

We encourage visiting sub-interns on our Labor and Delivery and Gynecologic Oncology services.  Due to limited availability, we have a competitive application process and make acceptance decisions on a rolling basis beginning March 1.  Students may apply through VSAS and visit Student Affairs for more information.  USMLE score report, medical school transcript, current CV, cover letter outlining reasons for applying, and a letter of recommendation are required for application.

Allegheny Health Network is proud to offer unique opportunities for underrepresented minority medical students to ensure the diversity of future generations of health care leaders.  To read more about the clerkship, please visit the Dr. George J. Magovern, Sr. Underrepresented Minority (URiM) Clerkship website, or submit a VSLO to initiate the application process.
