Through the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute, AVH brings together leaders in surgical, medical, hematological and radiation oncology, as well as clinical cancer researchers with expertise in a wide range of disciplines – to dramatically increase our patients’ odds in the fight against cancer.
AVH offers a comprehensive approach to heart care, monitoring, and treating the full range of cardiovascular diseases and conditions. Services offered include cardiology and cardiac imaging. We also offer an anticoagulation clinic, which specializes in caring for patients taking blood thinners.
AVH’s sophisticated diagnostic imaging technology includes CT, diagnostic X-ray, digital mammography, MRI, nuclear medicine imaging, PET/CT and ultrasound.
AVH’s emergency medicine team stands ready to respond, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in our state-of-the-art Emergency Department, offering specialized treatment areas for eye, ear, nose, and throat conditions; first- and second-degree burns, cardiac monitoring, orthopaedic procedures, acute care, and trauma. We offer pre-hospital transport with the Paramedic Unit for Life Support Emergency Response (A-K PULSER), a non-profit venture of AVH and 16 area ambulance services that provides community residents with quality pre-hospital care quickly and efficiently. Additionally, AVH offers an Urgent Care Center for the treatment of minor medical emergencies at its outpatient care center in New Kensington.
AVH offers comprehensive individualized care and professional treatment in our 22-bed inpatient, short-term mental health unit. We also offer an 18-bed mental health unit dedicated exclusively to seniors.
AVH uses EEG, EMG and ENG testing, as well as audiogram and evoked potentials, to quickly and accurately diagnose nervous system conditions and disorders. When patients present with stroke-related symptoms, our stroke telemedicine program provides round-the-clock access to the neurologists at Allegheny General Hospital’s Comprehensive Stroke Center.
AVH offers comprehensive care for a variety of conditions. Programs include orthopaedic surgery, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, the Center for Joint Replacement Success, the Hand Center, vestibular and balance, lymphedema, and the Low Vision Rehabilitation Clinic. In addition, AVH offers Joint Camp, an educational program for joint replacement patients that helps them prepare for surgery.
AVH offers surgical services including robotic surgical techniques for minimally invasive procedures using the da Vinci robotic surgical system for a variety of disciplines, including general, laser, orthopaedic, cardio-thoracic, urological, uro-gynecological, gynecological, neurological, colorectal, breast, podiatry, ophthalmological, oral and maxillofacial, and plastic and reconstructive.
In 2015, AVH expanded its endoscopy program by offering a new minimally invasive Barrx endoscopic radiofrequency ablation outpatient procedure for patients suffering with Barrett's Esophagus.
