Clinical experiences

Fellows have meaningful experiences throughout training at both AGH and West Penn hospitals, including:

• Inpatient Consult Service - includes General ID, Solid Organ, Bone Marrow Transplant, and Burn ICU
• HIV Continuity Clinic  - held one-half day per week in the first two years of fellowship
• Ambulatory Electives - General ID, Travel Medicine, Tuberculosis, and Hepatitis C Clinics
• Rotation Electives - Infection Prevention, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Microbiology, and Research

Microbiology laboratory:

In addition to traditional culture-based methodology, our Microbiology Lab utilizes next-generation, rapid, molecular-based testing, including:

• Multiplex respiratory and cerebrospinal fluid viral/bacterial PCR
• MALDI-TOF-based species identification
• PBP2a gene probe/mecA PCR testing of S aureus isolates

Didactic learning experiences

Conferences are an important means of education and will serve as a platform for interaction amongst the faculty, fellows, and other learners such as medical students and Internal Medicine residents.
