The program's dedication to research has expanded with the addition of a full-time data analytics team and additional specialized research coordinators to help facilitate resident projects. Value is placed on contributions that the resident can make to advance orthopaedic knowledge. There are monthly resident research meetings and each resident is expected to participate in basic science and/or translational clinical research.
The residents participate in the Annual Orthopaedic Resident Research Day held in the spring. In addition, they are encouraged and offered the opportunity to present at national conferences. There is a PhD-directed biomechanics laboratory and an advanced biofilms laboratory at Allegheny.
