At Healthcare@Home, our hospice philosophy has a single purpose: to provide comfort and support at the end of life. We recognize that our veterans and their families may face unique and special needs and challenges because of their illness, isolation or traumatic life experiences.
The goals of the We Honor Veterans Program focus on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgment. By recognizing the unique needs of our veterans and their families, we can learn how to accompany and guide them through their life stories toward a more peaceful ending.
America’s veterans have done everything asked of them in their mission to serve our country and we believe it is never too late to give them a hero’s welcome home.
At 18 years old, James Foster joined the United States Navy and was commissioned and served aboard the USS Worcester from 1948-1951.James then went on to serve our country for another 37 years in the Military Sea Lift Command and retired as a Seaman 3rd Class.
When Healthcare@Home Hospice Chaplain Timothy Wheeler learned that the USS Worchester Association was giving away deck planks to “plank owners,” he was able to acquire one for James, his hospice patient. Instead of Tim just giving the plank to James himself, he thought it would be fitting to honor James by having a group of officers visit James in his home and present this very special recognition and gift to him. As you can see from the photo above, nine officers made time to visit and present this special gift to James and his wife. What a wonderful way to honor our veteran!
