At the end of your training, you will possess the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to thrive in the practice of general medicine or to excel in subspecialty training. These attributes for success include humanism, professionalism, clinical skills, management skills, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
With our program, you will gain clinical experience at state-of-the-art training facilities.
We offer an innovative 4:1 rotation schedule meaning that you will have 10 (4-week) inpatient rotations throughout the academic year with 1-week outpatient rotations between each inpatient rotation for optimal continuity with your clinic patients.
Your didactic experiences will complement the excellent clinical experiences you will have, ensuring that you will acquire the essential clinical skills, confidence, and independence you will need to provide the highest quality medical care to patients with a diverse array of acute or chronic diseases.
Our program is not only here to provide you with excellent training, but we are concerned with your health and well-being inside and outside of the hospital. Our Wellness Taskforce (a group of dedicated residents, faculty, and staff) is charged with ensuring that your training is achievable and that you maintain an appropriate work/life balance. We actively monitor and measure burnout among you and your peers, and we offer resources for fighting burnout. We continually solicit your feedback on the schedule and adapt the work environment to optimize your wellness while providing excellent patient care. You will see that we take active measures to combat burnout by promoting your health and wellness with fun and uplifting events during and outside of work hours. Our “Resident Wellness Room” is a place where you and your fellow residents can go to eat, watch TV, a fun activity, or simply to stop for a moment to take in a beautiful view of downtown Pittsburgh.
