A Regional Home Health & Hospice registered nurse comes to your home to provide care such as assessments of heart and breath sounds, care of wounds, ostomies and catheters and other services. RNs also provide special support to newborns and their mothers and teach patients and their family members to manage medication, nutrition and other patient needs. If you need additional professional services, your Regional Home Health & Hospice nurses can help to coordinate them for you as well as keep your physician informed about any changes in your condition.
Your Regional Home Health & Hospice physical therapist will help you improve your strength, coordination, mobility and pain control through therapeutic exercises and other modalities. They also help patients adapt to canes, walkers and wheelchairs.
Your Regional Home Health & Hospice occupational therapist helps you and your family members use techniques and equipment to help you improve your level of independent functioning in such activities as eating, bathing, dressing, cooking and mobility.
Regional Home Health & Hospice speech pathologists can help you relearn or improve your communication and memory skills such as speaking, writing and problem solving. They also encourage family members to get involved with your therapy.
Hospice (end-of-life) care is provided by a team of caring professionals working with your primary care provider. Most hospice care is provided in your home (wherever that may be) but can also be provided as needed in a hospital or skilled nursing facility. Nurses, aides, therapists, counselors, social workers and physicians make up your multidisciplinary team of compassionate caregivers. The hospice nurses are available to you 24/7.
Regional Home Health & Hospice home health aides help you with some of your daily activities that you cannot do yourself such as bathing and grooming, light housekeeping and meal preparation.
Adjusting to an illness or injury can be tough. Your Regional Home Health & Hospice medical social worker can arrange for help from community support services and assist in finding the best extended care facility for you if you should need one.
Patients can recuperate in the comfort of their own homes near family and friends. They have a feeling of independence and control in their lives, without sacrificing sound medical treatment. Home care services also can reduce the length and cost of hospital stays.
Persons eligible for home care are those in need of skilled health care services, including nursing, physical therapy and speech therapy. Usually the patients are confined to their homes by illness or injury or can leave only for short periods of time with the assistance of another person. All care must be ordered by a physician, who is updated regularly on the patient’s condition.
Medicare, Medical Assistance, many Blue Cross policies, HMOs and several other health insurance policies may pay all or part of the cost of home care services.
