The goals and objectives of the Medical Physics Residency Program in Diagnostic Medical Physics at Allegheny Health Network are to prepare new medical physics graduates to independently perform the diverse duties of an imaging physicist in a typical practice. The residency is structured as a two-year training program. By the end of our program, physics residents will be ready to embark on a career in diagnostic medical physics. They will be well prepared for their board examinations, and have experience in all the tasks required of a clinical physicist.
Our curriculum follows the recommendations of AAPM Report 249. Learning is structured as a hands-on apprenticeship and lectures, intended to support the resident in incrementally acquiring core competence to practice diagnostic medical physics independently.

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) is a Pittsburgh-based healthcare system. Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) is the quaternary hospital for (AHN), which includes 13 additional hospitals, 14 multi-modality imaging centers, and 50 other Allegheny Clinic medical/surgical practices using imaging throughout Western Pennsylvania and Southwestern New York. AHN hospitals in Pennsylvania (PA) are accredited through The Joint Commission or National Integrated Accreditation for Healthcare (NIAHO) and all imaging facilities are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Additionally hospitals are credentialed by the PA Department of Health or New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). Radioactive materials licenses and X-ray registrations are maintained through, and inspected by, the PA Department of Environmental Protection or NYSDOH. Mammography facilities are also certified by the FDA.
