About the program

Under the guidance and supervision of clinical faculty in both Infectious Disease and Critical Care Medicine, this three-year training program cohesively combines the core training framework of these two medical specialties. Trainees get the opportunity to care for patients at Allegheny General and Western Pennsylvania Hospitals.

The ID Division comprises a group of dedicated physicians who care for a wide variety of patients with infectious diseases. Our faculty members have interests spanning Solid Organ/Bone Marrow Transplant, HIV, Surgical Site Infections, Inclusion Health, Infection Prevention, Hospital Epidemiology, and Antimicrobial Stewardship. Our inpatient ID consultation services are complimented by robust specialty care clinics. The faculty and fellows within the Critical Care Medicine Division provide services in the Medical, Surgical, Cardiac, Neurology, and Trauma Intensive Care Units.

While focused in ID, the first two years of the ID-CCM training program is punctuated by ICU call responsibilities and dedicated Medical ICU rotations. The third year of medical training is heavily CCM-focused, but some time is provided for supplemental training on the ID service. Our trainees are board-eligible for Infectious Disease and Critical Care Medicine after completion of their second and third years, respectively.
